Fino al 2006, infatti, il mercato russo era quasi completamente composto dai vini prodotti in Georgia e Moldavia, sia sfusi che imbottigliati. In seguito, per motivi politici, ne è stata vietata la vendita in favore dei vini locali e dei vini sfusi derivanti da Spagna e Francia, soprattutto Champagne.
